Counterparts to Keegan's mystical, often haunting faces can be found high in the European Alps, etched into the craggy cliffs by the forces of nature. As an art form, shepherds have traditionally carved these faces in avalanche wood. Keegan, who studied under master carvers in Austria and is the author of well over 10,000 such faces, now creates them in lava rock. This medium makes the art work suitable for year-round outdoor placement.
